My Favorite In The Series
5 out of 5 stars
I’ve read all three books in the Start Up In The City Series and Undone is by far my favorite. I think it has the most realistic people in it and honestly the story was so much more than your typical love story.
Undone starts off with some familiar characters from books one and two. I love that the series keeps them around but you also don’t feel like you’re missing too much if you hadn’t read them. The two major story-lines is a re-marriage of the two main characters from book two, Unspoken, and the pregnancy and eventual birth of twins from the couple from the first book, Unexpected.
The story related to the pregnancy took this book from a lighthearted story to a serious one (and little did I know that was just the beginning). Jess had a past that no one knew about and Jake was able to be there for her enough that she trusted him to tell him and then the book took another dark turn. I say it was dark and serious, but I do that while also knowing that both things that Jess talked about (and the one that helped her see what was going on with her friend) are real and serious things – but they’re also realistic and I know numerous people who’s pasts look very similar to Jess.
Jess was the strongest and most interesting character in this series and this book really showed that. The things that she dealt with and the growth that she showed just in this book was crazy. I loved following her story and learning the little things about her. And obviously Jake was a fantastic guy and the right guy for her. I loved near the end when she’s starting to realize what is going on and realize how he’s been treating her the whole time. It was this beautiful moment and I sat on my couch at 1 A.M. crying happy tears because I was so happy that her character grew enough to see what was actually going on instead of hiding behind her shell.
Undone was a great book, and I apologize if I spoiled anything above. I really enjoyed it and I absolutely flew through it (I think I finished it in less than 2 days). Rimmer wrote strong female characters and caring and charismatic male leads. Their relationships were extremely real and the ups and downs are ones that most couples face (instead of being like “that would never happen!”.
The only vow she’s ever been prepared to make is not to say “I do”
Running a major tech company without breaking a sweat? No problem. But being a bridesmaid at her best friend’s wedding is giving Jess Cohen a bad case of the jitters. Maybe that’s because she’ll have to face the groom’s brother, Jake – the man she’s been avoiding for the past two years. Jake, who Jess dumped mercilessly, unable to tell him the truth about her past. Jake, who’s loyal, loving, and all wrong for someone who refuses to be tied down. If only Jess’ heart could remember that.
Jake Winton spent four months secretly dating Jess, and the past two years trying – and failing – to forget her. He’d been ready to propose, convinced Jess was every bit as in love with him as he was with her. Now he’s sure their connection is still there, sizzling and undeniable. Whatever she’s holding back, he can handle – if only she’ll trust him with her secrets, her fears, and her heart.
