Souls of the Never is a thrill ride
4 out of 5 stars
Katheryne is just a normal 20-year-old. She was living a seemingly normal life until her dreams started to descend into terror and pain. She is quickly thrown into a battle that has raged for thousands of years and the fate of reality lies in her hands.
The narration for Souls of the Never was done by Katie Welburn and she does a really nice job. Her voice sounds very young, which is perfect for the main character. She was easy to follow along with and added nice emotion to the story.
A young adult story at heart, Souls of the Never was easy to read and I found myself really getting lost in the story. Rutherford does a really nice job writing a story that is enjoyable for both adults and young adults alike. It’s hard for me to pin it to just one genre, but if I had to I would combine science fiction and fantasy because this seems to combine them both perfectly.
Katheryne was an awesome main character. The combination of her as a character and Welburn narrating her voice perfectly made this story even easier to read.
Overall, this was an action-packed young adult fantasy/science fiction novel that translates to almost any age. The only reason it lost a star from me is that I felt like there was a lot more to tell (and I know this is a planned series), but I don’t know if I will continue it. It started to lean hard towards fantasy (and I enjoy Sci-Fi more).
I was given a free copy of this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
Katheryne thinks she’s just a normal 20-year-old until her dreams descend into terror and pain.
At the edge of the universe, an ancient evil awakens. It wants into our world, and it’s coming through her.
As the dreams become reality, Katheryne is pitched into a battle that has raged for thousands of years. The fate of all reality rests in her hands.
This is Book One in Tales of the Neverwar. An epic adventure through time, space, and alternate realities. Suitable for the Young Adult audience.
