Old Friend. Old Crush. Meet Cute.
5 out of 5 stars
I had this on my wishlist for a while, I saw it was coming out, and I knew I had to jump into it. It was an even cuter story than I expected.
In the Event of Love tells the story of a transplanted LA event planner returning home to lick her wounds after a disastrous event threatens to derail her career. Once home, she not only has to face the ghosts of home, including her tumultuous relationship with her father, but she also comes face to face with a long-lost best friend turned crush, Rachel.
The “meet cute” section was hilarious; honestly, I knew I was in for an enjoyable book from that moment on. I wasn’t sure I was going to like Morgan at first, but she really blossomed being back home, and Rachel’s ability to take her guard down helped her become such a likable character.
In The Event of Love was just one of those books that put a smile on my face throughout. Courtney Kae was able to write a story that included such interesting and likable characters – even the ones outside of the main ones. To the point where the next book in the series is not only predictable but one that I will have to check out when it comes out because I could feel their story brewing (it was mentioned a few times in this book).
I don’t want to say this, taking away from the book, but it had the exact formula that I was expecting, which works for me. There are always changes or tweaks, but Kae understood how to make me fall deeply for these characters on their own, then together, then want to fight when things got tough. And had me balling when the ending was coming to a close.
Melissa Moran nails this, becoming each character, taking an already great book, and making it even better. Her performances for each book are why I always seek her work out. I know if she’s attached to it, I will at least enjoy it a little bit. But usually, I end up loving them.
