When I dove into Scissor Link by Georgette Kaplan, narrated by the talented Anastasia Watley, I expected a fun, flirty workplace romance, but what I got was so much more. This was a sizzling, heart-pounding rollercoaster that had me hooked from start to finish.
Wendy Cedar’s crush on her boss, Janet Lace, isn’t just your run-of-the-mill office infatuation; it’s the kind that you can practically feel crackling through the air. This age-gap, lesbian romantic comedy delivers all the laughs and tension you’d hope for, with a few surprises along the way.
What really stood out to me in this audiobook was the dynamic between Wendy and Janet. Their chemistry is palpable, so much so that at times, it feels like it might set the entire office on fire. Georgette Kaplan does a brilliant job of creating two characters who are each other’s equals, yet complement each other perfectly. Wendy, with her youthful energy and impulsiveness, contrasts beautifully with Janet’s more reserved, post-divorce wisdom. Together, they round off each other’s edges in a way that feels natural and deeply satisfying. I was completely invested in their journey from the very first chapter.
And I have to give a shout-out to Anastasia Watley for her exceptional narration. She brings these characters to life with just the right amount of emotion, perfectly capturing the heat of the steamy scenes and the vulnerability in the quieter moments. Her voice work adds an extra layer to the story that made the experience even more immersive. If you’re looking for a romance that’s equally fiery and heartwarming, Scissor Link is definitely worth a listen.
Overall, Scissor Link was one of those books that wasn’t what I expected in the best way possible. Kaplan nailed the specific dynamic between Wendy and Janet setting fire to each chapter in some way once things got heated up.
