Love in Focus by Lyla Lee is exactly the kind of audiobook that makes me grin like an idiot while folding laundry or walking the dog. It’s got all the rom-com charm packed into one: college roommates turned heartbreak, years of silence, and then a reunion to work on a project all about love. Yes, trope after trope, and honestly? It works like a dream.
What I adored most was how the story leaned into those familiar beats while still feeling fresh. It’s almost like watching a rom-com about rom-coms, complete with little winks to the audience that had me laughing throughout.
The whole setup of weaving in interviews about love added an extra layer of heart and gave it a surprisingly thoughtful depth… especially that final curveball interview (which I won’t spoil, but wow).
The narration was spot on. Natalie Naudus reminded me why she’s one of my absolute favorite narrators, embodying Gemma Cho so perfectly. Catherine Ho’s Celeste Min had this flawless “nothing bothers me” cool exterior that peeled back to reveal such a soft and vulnerable side. Together, their performances made the dynamic between Gemma and Celeste sparkle.
This is a cozy second-chance romance filled with familiar tropes and overflowing with heart. If you enjoy smiling throughout an audiobook, this one definitely delivers.
