Join Team Grendel as they find more than they expect

4.5 out of 5 stars

Honestly, I can’t write a better synopsis than the one that was already written. There is something in the deep. Something large. Something hungry. Something prehistoric. And Team Grendel must find it, fight it, and kill it. Kinsey Thorne, the first female US Navy SEAL candidate has hit rock bottom. Having washed out of the Navy, she turned to every drink and drug she could get her hands on. Until her father and cousins, all ex-Navy SEALS themselves, offer her a way back into the life: as part of a private, elite combat Team being put together to find and hunt down an impossible monster in the Indian Ocean. Kinsey has a second chance, but can she live through it?

The narration for Mega was done by Lee Strayer who does a really nice job.  He gave each character a slightly different voice while still making it easy to listen to and follow along. Strayer provides the perfect pacing and speed to move this fast deep sea thriller along.

Mega wasn’t just about a shark or sharks. It was definitely an introduction to characters and premises that I think will be continued through the next books in the series. There is nothing at all wrong with that because Bible sprinkles in more than enough action to make this a thrilling book.

The characters in Mega are extremely well thought out.  They are all there for a reason, all have some sort of backstory that makes sense to the story. I love when an author can do that without taking up hundreds of pages at the same time.

Overall, Mega was really great. I’ve read other books in this genre and this follows the same pacing and storytelling but still feeling a little different and new.  MEG by Steve Alten was one of my all-time favorite books and I was worried this would be too close, but it took a totally different direction with the same type of shark.
